Grow more, earlier, and with far less effort. Our FSC treated timber raised beds warm up sooner in spring than open ground, drain freely, and never get compacted by footfall – so you can plant earlier and dig less. And because the bed is raised, there is far less bending and reaching. This version comes complete with a professional-grade liner included, which protects the timber, helps retain moisture in the compost and keeps soil where it belongs.

How it’s built

Every corner is supported by a 2" x 2" post; the 6" x 1" boards screw directly to it. The liner fits inside the finished bed.

Sizes, growing area & compost needed

External size is the footprint of the bed. The internal growing area is roughly 5cm smaller in each direction (the thickness of the boards). Compost figures assume filling the bed close to the top – a useful shopping guide, not an exact science.

† Sides 6ft and longer are supplied as two boards per course, joined with the joiner board shown in the diagram above. All kits use 6" x 1" planks and 2" x 2" corner posts; maximum single plank length is 4ft.

Assembly

Prepare or rotavate the ground and make sure it is flat – the bed sits about 1" (3cm) down into the earth. Assemble with a second person if possible, using a power drill and cordless screwdriver (not included): join the panels vertically, attach joining pieces on long sides, join the corners using the corner posts, fit the liner, then push the planter down onto the soil.

Before you order – please read

Raised beds arrive flat-packed and need assembling; all components, screws and instructions are inside one of the packs.
The timber is water pressure treated and can arrive wet – it dries out naturally at home.
Timber is not planed, so some fraying and chips can occur – it’s a working garden bed, not furniture.
Beds 6ft long and upwards come as separate boards joined with a joiner board (see diagram).
Larger beds arrive as separate parcels; screws and instructions are in one of them.
Prices include carriage to UK mainland only – please ring for a delivered price elsewhere, as weight and size can add carriage costs.

Timber is water pressure treated (it can arrive wet and dries at home) and unplaned — a working garden bed, just like the photos. Beds with 6ft or 8ft sides arrive as separate boards per course joined with joiner boards, shown in the model. Assembly: two people, a drill and 30–45 minutes.

Garden questions we get asked

How deep should a raised bed be?

15cm to 30cm is plenty for salad leaves, herbs and strawberries. Go to 45cm or deeper for carrots, parsnips and potatoes, or if you want to garden standing up rather than kneeling.

Is the timber safe for growing food?

Our raised beds use FSC-certified pressure-treated timber from responsibly sourced forests, treated for ground contact and widely used for growing food. A liner adds a further barrier if you prefer one.

How much compost will I need?

Multiply length by width by depth in metres to get cubic metres, then multiply by 1,000 for litres. A 1m x 2m bed at 30cm deep needs roughly 600 litres. Ring us if you would like us to work it out with you.

Do the beds come assembled?

They arrive flat-packed with corner posts included and go together with basic tools. The larger sizes are heavy once built, so assemble them where they are going to live.

Can I extend a bed later?

Yes. Kits can be extended or stacked rather than replaced, so you can grow the plot a season at a time.
